Twelfth Street Baptist Church began its life as a church on January 17, 1904. The church began with 50 members and a vision to reach the new and developing area of West Gadsden. The church accomplished her goal and grew to be one of the largest churches in Etowah County. The membership came from primarily around the neighborhood of the church. The presence of Twelfth Street in our community had a huge impact upon the culture of our neighborhood.
As the years went by things began to change. Many of the members who were a part of the community in West Gadsden began to move to other parts of the city and county. The church struggled to reach people and bring them in to their West Gadsden location. But in 2009, everything.
God gave Twelfth Street the vision to relocate. In November, 2009 the church purchased the property located at 800 West Grand Avenue in Rainbow City. It was the former location of the Rainbow City Kmart. Here is the article in the local Gadsden Times. In November, 2010 the old location was sold to the Abundant Life Church. And in April, 2011, Twelfth Street began to worship in her new location in Rainbow City. We still have a presence in West Gadsden through our mission church called Hopkins Chapel which continues to be a valuable part of our old neighborhood.
Since making the move, we have never looked back. God has blessed us in ways far beyond our imagination. We are growing and are a vibrant church once again. We are still mission minded and have a great heart for the city. God is using Twelfth Street to continue to have an impact on many lives and make a difference in our community. So, don’t let our age fool you. Come and see what God is doing at Twelfth Street Baptist Church.
