Thank you for taking the time to find out about the Worship Ministry at Twelfth Street. Music is now and has always been an important part of worship at our church. Please contact me if you would like more information or if there is any way I can be of service to you. Below you will find basic information about the music at Twelfth Street.
The Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is the most visible of our music groups, providing special music and leading in worship for our 11:00 Sunday morning service. In addition, the Chancel Choir presents major presentations each year - particularly during the Christmas and Easter seasons. Our choir also provides the core of soloists/actors for our seasonal productions as well as our special soloists each week in the worship services.
Membership is open to all adults without tryouts or auditions. No experience is necessary. You should just have a love for God, a desire to praise Him with your voice, and a commitment to participate weekly. Child care is available during our regular rehearsal time at 6:00 – 7:30pm each Wednesday evening, and also for any extra rehearsal times we may have prior to special programs.
The Awaken Praise Team & Band
We have a praise team and band that leads in worship for our 8:30am Awaken Services on Sunday. This group has an auditioned group of 4 singers, with occasional temporary additions as needed. The band has a keyboard, guitars, and drums. The entire group rehearses together on Sunday nights from 4:30-5:30pm for the music to be included on the following Sunday.
Our music ministry provides other vocal and instrumental opportunities for those with a desire to use their talents. We often need to add accompanists for various groups, such as children choirs and Sunday School departments. There are opportunities for soloist or small groups to sing for various functions as requested. We occasionally have a “Fifth Sunday Singing”, which is a time for individuals to sing who possibly cannot participate in choirs for some reason. So there are multiple places for a person to plug into the music ministry of Twelfth Street.
The Biggest Choir of All
If you are a part of a worship service at Twelfth Street, then you are already a part of the biggest and most important choir of all: the congregation! Each week as we participate in the worship services we should each be doing more than just singing some old songs and learning new ones. We should be lifting our voices in adoration and praise of the God of the Universe. We are told in Ephesians 5:18 to “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord”. So join in without concern for who might hear you, or the sound of your voice, and worship the Lord with all your heart.
As had been said in the past, all followers of Christ will worship and adore Him for eternity. So everyone join in now in the “heavenly choir rehearsals” as we worship Him here at Twelfth Street, preparing for our eternal choir.
